The word “FEAR” seems to keep rearing its ugly head these days. So I thought I should reflect on what I am doing and building today, and try to understand my relationship with fear better.
You see, earlier this year I took the BIG LEAP and left the security of a job I was no longer thriving in, to work for myself. I had been working for the same company for 9 years, the longest I had ever worked for any company, and I stayed because I was waiting.
The question I finally had to ask myself last year was, “What have you been waiting for?” And the answer was, I was waiting for things to get better. I thought if I could just work a bit harder or twist myself into yet another pretzel doing what someone else wanted, it would get better. You know what? It was never going to get better.
So I faced the unknown, and the fear of failure, and started my own business. And today, I am not afraid. I am happier than I have ever been in my life. I am full of confidence, full of ideas and passion, and rocking my new life!
Am I scared? You bet I am. Scared and excited to create something new every single day. To write an eBook, to shoot a video, to create exciting new training programs, to reach out to potential clients and say “I can help”.
I got through the fear by trusting myself, by leaning on my inner circle of powerful entrepreneurs, family and friends, and by taking action. You see, I learned the power of imperfect action. And you can, too.
We all want to communicate well, be understood, and move people with our actions and words. Most of us aren’t perfect communicators, but we can try to do better, one step at a time. Try to be clearer with our messages and to communicate what needs to happen and why, so we can make the world a better place through positive change, whether at home or at work.
How do YOU move past fear and communicate to make positive change? I’d love to hear from you, by email, through my website, or by commenting on this blog.
P.S. I’d like to invite you to download my FREE eBook, titled 5 Must-Know Techniques to Persuade Your Reader.
